Kenya’s Little Cab set to join transport sector

Little Technologies share company launched a taxi hailing service called Little Mekina on June 10, 2021.

The Ethiopian company launched the service after it signed a partnership agreement with Kenya-based taxi-hailing service Little Cab to use the latter’s platform.

“Little Technologies Share Company, established by Ethiopian investors with a paid-up capital of 140 million Birr, will facilitate the introduction of the service that will see Little Cab being re-branded as Little Mekina,” said Mekonnen Mikael, Communication and Advocacy Director of the company.

Speaking on the launching event held at the Skylight Hotel, Deputy CEO of Little Technologies, Zelalem Worku said with adequate taxi and delivery service experiences in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia, the developer will provide the online ride-hailing platform in Ethiopia.

According to Zelalem, the platform, which will be functional shortly in Ethiopia, will also incorporate super applications with extended services like ride services, car rentals, mobile top-ups, and utility payments.

Little Cab, which is backed by the telecom operator Safaricom that is already joining the Ethiopian telecom industry, is expected to deploy mobile-based activities in partnership with Little Mekina in the near future.

According to Mekonnen, the Company has started registering taxi operators and nearly 500 drivers are ready to provide the service.

Little Technologies mainly aims to provide services that avoid cash-based payments since digital systems and activities have already kicked off to integrate the platform with digital banking systems and mobile money services.

“The incentives that the company provides to its drivers will make the service unique and, everyone can buy shares of the company starting from a single share,” Mekonnen said.

Anteneh Fikadu, a representative from Ethiopian Airlines, disclosed that the Airlines has already partnered with Little Cab under the Sheba miles program via prepaid mode to avail Sheba miles offer to customers of the ride-hailing provider.

According to Mekonnen, the process to install the platform and acquire the licenses from the Authority will take eight months. Source Reporter
