Ethiopian Elephant Conservation Authority says 16 elephants have been killed by poachers in just six months. The Authority said elephants are one of the endangered species in Ethiopia.
“If the poaching is not stopped, it will not be long before the elephants are extinct in Ethiopia,” the authority said in its statement.
There are less than 1,800 elephants in Ethiopia, said Daniel Assefa, director of wildlife law enforcement at the Wildlife Conservation Authority.
He said illegal settlements, illegal hunting, deforestation, and farming are still difficult for wildlife, especially in protected areas.
